The problem
Recycling electronic waste is often inconvenient and lacks strong motivation for users, leading to low participation and engagement. Many existing systems fail to provide meaningful incentives, making it difficult to encourage consistent recycling behavior. Additionally, there is no structured way to track user activity or measure impact, and verifying whether recycling actions actually took place remains a major challenge.
The approach
To address these issues, the approach focused on combining sustainability with gamification to create a more engaging and rewarding experience. A reward-based system was introduced, allowing users to earn coins and redeem coupons, while a guided recycling journey—spanning item selection, location discovery, and QR-based verification—simplified the process. Gamification elements such as badges, leaderboards, and challenges were implemented to drive continuous engagement. Alongside this, a scalable backend was developed to efficiently manage users, rewards, and analytics, with a strong emphasis on intuitive UX to reduce friction and make recycling effortless.
The solution
The platform delivers a seamless and engaging user experience, starting with easy onboarding and profile setup, followed by a structured flow for selecting electronic items through categorized options. Users can locate nearby recycling centers using geo-based services and generate a unique QR code for drop-off verification. A coin-based reward system incentivizes actions, supported by a comprehensive reward catalogue with filtering and sorting options, along with a smooth coupon redemption process. To enhance engagement, gamification features were integrated, including leaderboards based on coins earned, achievement badges and milestones, as well as bi-weekly challenges and themed campaigns. Additional elements like bonus rewards and surprise incentives further encourage continued participation and user retention. On the backend, a robust admin system was developed to manage user activity, partner brands, and coupon inventories efficiently. It also includes a recycling center verification system to ensure authenticity, along with an analytics dashboard that provides insights into user engagement, recycling statistics, and overall brand performance, enabling data-driven decision-making.
